Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.
Printed sheet music, and karaoke recordings of songs and arias that could be found online, for free or at an affordable price at libraries, and books stores. The repertoire(sheet music + karaoke) of each individual student for voice lessons has to be approved by the voice instructor. |

Core Objectives |
1. Students will demonstrate proficiency in vocal technique music from commercial, classical, and broadway repertoire. (PSLO 2) 2. Students will develop a professional, disciplined approach to performance skills. (PSLO 2,3,4,5) 3. Students will present a juried performance for faculty. In lieu of juries, the student will present a video that demonstrates the students' vocal development during the semester. (PSLO 2,3,4,5) 4. Students will demonstrate comprehension of content-area reading material. Identifies all main ideas, supporting details, and vocabulary in reading material related to vocal technique and repertoire; demonstrates a full understanding of the reading. (PSLO 1) 5. Students will demonstrate proficiency in commercial music repertoire and technique; develop a professional, disciplined approach to performance skills; and present a juried performance for faculty (PSLO 1,2,3,4,5). |

Major Assignments Schedule |
Midterm may be a combination of written, oral, and/or performance. The final exam is either a private performance with the voice instructor or an open performance with juries. Your final presentation should include at least three (3) songs that must be memorized and ready to perform from the repertoire of commercial music assigned by the instructor during the semester. The final exam and jury recital: the student, upon the instructor's agreement, will choose to perform with (1) a karaoke track, (2) accompany themselves, (3) have an accompanist, or (4) sing with a full band. |

Determination of Final Grade |
Weekly Lessons 55% - You will be given a grade for each weekly lesson. At the end of the semester, the combined average of these grades will comprise 55% of your semester grade. Mid-Term Performance, Written Exam, and Memorization of all your repertoire for the semester will comprise 20% of your semester grade. Final Exam 25% |

Attendance Policy |
Research has shown a cause and effect relationship between attendance and college success. Policies for this course are described below: There are about 16 weeks every semester; students are expected to attend at least 14 lessons per semester. This is a 2 credit course that is required to meet 4 hours per week - one hour with your applied faculty plus three additional hours, exclusive of course preparation by the student. You are allowed one "free" weekly lesson absence per semester. This "free" absence will not count against your grade. For all other unexcused absences, you will be given a "0" for that week's lesson grade unless you bring an official excuse, for example a medical excuse signed by the doctor. |
